Шлифование и полировка открывают и подчеркивают естественную красоту мрамора, при бучадировании образуются противоскользящие полосы, а состаривание популярно у тех, кто хочет стилизовать интерьер под античность.
По своим свойствам мрамор прочен, долговечен, устойчив к перепадам влажности и температур. При этом он нестоек к кислотам, красителям, термическим воздействиям – не стоит ставить на такую столешницу чашку с горячим содержимым.
Для влажных помещений используют мраморные плитки, учитывая, что он может изменить цвет из-за окисления железистых включений. Также следует иметь в виду тот факт, что через некоторое время после укладки плитки на ней могут проступить не выводимые пятна от солевых и красящих добавок в клее или цементном растворе.
Для ухода за мрамором используют разнообразные упрочнители, полироли, каменные пропитки, мастики, очищающие составы и даже пчелиный воск. Цель применения этих средств – защита от агрессивных сред, повреждающих поверхность: вода, соль, песок, кислота, грязь. Если же поверхность повреждена настолько. Что химическими составами исправить это невозможно, применяют повторную шлифовку и полировку поверхности.
В настоящее время мрамор вполне доступный строительный и отделочный материал. Промышленные методы его добычи и обработки снизили его стоимость до приемлемого уровня.
